He was native of Albany KY where he lived until his early teens and then moved to Bowling Green, KY where he lived until his retirement. He was the first person in his family to go to college and eventually earned his Doctorate degree. He was a US Navy veteran from 1968-1972. He taught school at Bowling Green High School while working on his Master's degree from Western Kentucky University. He then started teaching at Western Kentucky University while earning his Doctorate from the University of Kentucky in 1980.. He continued to teach at WKU before becoming an administrator and founder of the WKU Community College where he served until retirement. Survivors include a son, Jeremy & wife Sarah Boles, 2 grandsons, Jacob & Samuel Boles, along with 2 sisters, Glenda Speck, and Donna Grovesteen. He was the son of the late Elmer & Vada Frost Boles, also preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth"Betty" Boles Marx.
