Mr. Gene Edward Latham

Mr. Gene Edward Latham of Albany, Kentucky, departed this life on August 10, 2026, at Cookeville Regional Hospital, having attained the age of 88 years.

Gene was born on February 2, 1938, to Bill Ed and Georgie Latham. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, teacher, farmer, and friend. Above all, Gene was a man of strong Christian faith who loved the Lord and sought to live his life with faith, humility, hard work, and love for others.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his siblings, Lewis Dale Latham, Linda Thomas, and William "Whiz" Latham, and sister-in-law, Shirley Latham and by his beloved son, Terry Delane Latham.

Gene leaves behind a lifetime of love and memories with his wife of 66 years, Ruth Upchurch Latham, whom he married on December 25, 1959. Their marriage was a testament to a lifetime of commitment, companionship, and love. He also leaves behind his brothers, Gary Latham and Mitch (Donna) Latham. He is also survived by his sons, Barney (Vicki) Latham and Eric (Carol) Latham of Albany, Kentucky; his daughter, Dani (Marc) Richardson of Byrdstown, Tennessee; his grandchildren, Amanda (Andrew) Roark, Megan (Dan) Robinson, Egan (Jenae) Latham, Corey Latham, Kaylee (Matthew) Laws, Morgan (Jadeon) Page, Hannah (Bode) Copeland, and Parker (Kylie) Richardson, TJ (Myra) Lawson; and his great-grandchildren, Aden and Addison Roark, Lucas, Gavin, and Abram Robinson, Orrin Latham, Summer Page, Graham Copeland, Jason (Abby), Maddie, and Mason Lawson.

Gene dedicated many years of his life to educating children in the Clinton County School District. As a mathematics teacher, he touched the lives of countless students, and his influence extended far beyond the classroom. He was a teacher who believed in hard work and expected the best from those he taught, leaving behind memories that many of his former students carried with them throughout their lives.

Gene was equally at home on the farm. He was a devoted farmer who owned and operated a dairy farm and was a partner in Brown & Latham Brothers Tomato company for many years. Even after retiring from teaching, he continued doing what he loved--working the land and caring for his cattle on his beef farm in the Snow Community. He understood the value of hard work and took great pride in providing for his family through the work of his hands.

Gene also had a genuine passion for golf. He loved the game, the challenge, and especially the time spent with others on the course. Golf was more than simply a pastime for Gene; it was something he truly enjoyed. One of his favorite traditions was playing golf on Sundays after church--a fitting reflection of the things that mattered most to him: his faith, fellowship, and the simple joy of doing something he loved.

Those who knew Gene will remember a man who was steady, hardworking, faithful, and devoted to his family. He leaves behind not only a family who loved him deeply, but also former students, friends, church family, neighbors, and members of the community whose lives he touched along the way.

Gene's earthly work is now finished, but his legacy lives on in the family he loved, the students he taught, the land he cared for, the friendships he made, and the faith he held so dear. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing that he is now at peace and resting in the presence of the Lord.

His life was well lived, his love was deeply felt, and his memory will be cherished always.

Burial will be in Cartwright Cemetery.
