Howard Willen Cross, age 94, of Albany passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2024.
With heavy hearts, we gather to remember and honor the life of a remarkable man, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and veteran. At the age of 94, he peacefully embarked on his final journey, leaving being a legacy of love, courage, and selflessness.
Born on May 31, 1929, Howard Willen Cross lived a life that touched the hearts of all who knew him. A devoted husband, he shared decades of companionship and unwavering love with his beloved wife, Genevieve Cross of 76 years. Their enduring partnership was a source of inspiration, demonstrating the strength that love can bring even in the face of life's challenges.
As a father, he was a beacon of wisdom and support. He embraced the joys and responsibilities of parenthood with a steadfast commitment to nurturing a loving and close-knit family. His children carry with them the lessons of kindness, resilience, and the importance of family bonds that Pa (as he was known) so exemplified.
To his grandchildren, he was a source of endless stories, laughter, and gentle guidance. He reveled in the role of a doting grandfather, imparting not only his experiences but also the values that shaped his character. The memories created with him will forever be cherished, a testament to the special bond between generations.
He served his country with honor and distinction as a veteran of the Korean War. His commitment to duty, sacrifice, and the defense of freedom defined his character and left an indelible mark on the lives of those he served alongside. Today, we salute not only his military service but also the profound impact he had on the lives of countless individuals.
In his 94 years, he witnessed the ebb and flow of time, navigating it's challenges with grace and resilience. He was the son of the late Roy O. and Bessie Cross.
He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Melba Riddle and Geneva Brown.
He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Cross,
his son, Dr. Tracy Cross and wife Jordan,
his daughter, Diane Cross,
two grandchildren, Annie Cross and Mary Willen Cross,
and one great-grandchild, Emersyn Glover.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Cedar Hill Church in Howard Willen Cross' honor.
Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery with Military Honors.
