A devoted Christian, Jim lived his faith through his actions, embodying the principles of the Methodist Church throughout his life. In 1969, he answered the call to ministry, embarking on a fulfilling journey that spanned 37 years, during which he served as a United Methodist minister alongside his beloved wife, Lucille.

Jim was preceded in death by his treasured son, Bryan Wade Byrd, and four brothers: Randolph, Randell, Webb, and Roger Byrd. This move allowed them to enjoy precious moments with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, bringing joy and light to Jim's life.
