Mitsue York, age 91, passed peacefully on Monday, January 25th, 2021 surrounded by family in Berea, KY. She was a member of Stony Point Baptist Church in Albany, KY. She was the widow of Eddie Wray York of Albany, KY.
The oldest of seven children, Mitsue was born on September 2nd, 1929 in Saitama Ken, Japan to Mr. and Mrs. Fukumatsue Tsukamoto. Mitsue excelled in all that she did. She graduated with honors from the Mitaka school system in Tokyo, Japan. She was employed as a clerk at the City Hall Branch Office in Mitaka, Japan and later at the US Air Base Post Exchange in Matsushima, Japan where she met her husband (Eddie Wray). They were married December 4th, 1958 at the American Embassy in Tokyo.
Mitsue enjoyed sewing, cooking, canning, reading and exercising. Her garden produce, baked and canned goods won many blue ribbons at the Clinton County Fair. She was very active in her community and volunteered at War Memorial Hospital often. She was a member of the Wellness Center, where she enjoyed swimming and participating in Tai Chi classes. To her,age was merely a number. She remained active well into her 80’s participating in activities such as white water rafting with her daughter Alice while in Alaska and winning the senior free throw competition in Albany. When asked about this competition, she replied “ I shoot hoops, that’s just what I do!” She loved her family and especially loved seeing her great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her son Lee York (Deeann) of Richmond, KY, daughter Alice Wilcoxson (Darrin) of Lafayette, IN, three grandchildren Clyne York (Brittaney), Olivia Davis (Josh), Cullen York and two great-grandchildren Peyson York and Hunter York.
Pallbearers will be Darrin Wilcoxson, Clyne York, Cullen York, Josh Davis, Ricky Hunter, Randy Hunter, and Hayden Hunter. Honorary pallbearers include Todd York, Stephen Grayer, and Harold Little.
Visitation will be held for Mrs. York from 10:00am-11:00am (CST) on Friday, January 29th, 2021 at Talbott Funeral Home in Albany, KY. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00am led by Pastor Jim England. The graveside service will be held at Memorial Hill Cemetery.
